The Art Complex

Hello World, I'm back!
So I have been waiting for the perfect day to start my blogging again and today is just that day...
This morning I was sitting outside of the gallery I work at and a long line of soon to be freshmen college students walked by as they were touring the campus. Most of them didn't give a damn about anything their orientation leader was saying and they could care even less about the arts and humanities on campus. In fact I am more than certain that 99% of them will completely forget there is even a gallery on campus and will go about their entire college career here without checking it out even once. Although that is such a shame they still can not escape art on campus. There is a sculpture on practically every corner of campus and paintings or photographs in nearly every building. What made me sad today was not the fact that none of those young adults couldn't care less about the tour they were being given, but this one young man who made one comment that blew me away even though I have heard it so many times before. As he walked past the gallery and the very large metal sculpture that sits halfway between the gallery and the street, he said, "Ooo curvy metal", in the most sarcastic tone. Well, I would love to see him try to re-create that sculpture!! Good Luck little boy! You see, I just can't stand to hear people say about art "I just don't get it" or "What's the point?". The point is that this world would be boring and grey without art.
Now let me put it in perspective for those of you who still "just don't get it"... The cool ads you see on TV, that is art. Oh wait, any ad you see pretty much anywhere...that is graphic design...ART! The patterned shirts you buy, hell any of the clothes you buy (hello! fashion design!). And while we are on the subject of fashion design lets talk about the many forms of art that come along with that...obviously there's the fashion designer, there's makeup artists, hair stylist, and of course there are people who design the sets and create wild sculptures for the models (or live sculptures) to pose on.  Oh and lets not forget, some one has to Photograph the models...and by someone I don't mean anyone (photographers, you hear me?!). So I can keep going...That awesome building you saw while on vacation, or even in your own city, that's architecture aka ART. Hey what about those bad ass tattoos you saw on that dudes arm at the club the other night...well you cant go try to re-create that awesomely terrible dragon tattoo on your own arm without a tattoo artist. Let me say it again tattoo ARTIST! I could keep going but I think you get my point.
Without art this world would SUCK! You feel me?!
